Massive participation during day #1 of the FIBA Americas Referee Training Camp in Panama

With the participation of 80 people from all around the country (45 referees and 35 listeners) began the FIBA Americas Referee Training Camp in the Novotel Hotel of Panama city. The camp began with an interview of the National Federation President, Jair Peralta, who talked about the importance of the FIBA Americas Referee Department having these camps around the continent. After, the participants exchanged ideas with part of the staff of the Department, Geraldo Fontana – Director and Cristiano Maranho (Brazil) and Leonardo Zalazar (Argentina) who are instructors and active referees participating this weekend at the group D of Liga de Las Americas in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

To begin the session, the instructor Roberto Vazquez (Puerto Rico) introduced the 2018 changes in the FIBA rules; after, the instructor Julio Anaya (Panama) talked about the criteria to identify the unsportsmanlike fouls situations. To finish the day, the topics developed where the individual officiating techniques and the fake situations who are really important to manage properly during our games.

During the activities, the participants worked in groups in which they got video clips from game situations to analyze them and then have an opinion about their decision; these exercises stimulate the mindset of the referees to develop their mental training before the games.

The camp will continue tomorrow Saturday 9th with the physical activities and on-court training of the three-person mechanics. We will have also live games in which selected referees will participate to evaluate their performance on the court.

Masiva participación durante el día #1 del Campamento de Arbitraje FIBA Americas en Panamá

Con la participación de 80 personas a nivel nacional (45 árbitros y 35 oyentes) inició el Campamento de Arbitraje FIBA Americas en el Hotel Novotel de la ciudad de Panamá. El campamento inició con una entrevista realizada al Presidente de la Federación Nacional, Jair Peralta, que habló acerca la importancia del Departamento de Arbitraje de FIBA en realizar estos campamentos a lo largo del continente. Seguidamente, los participantes intercambiaron ideas con parte del staff del Departamento, Geraldo Fontana – Director y Cristiano Maranho (Brasil) y Leonardo Zalazar (Argentina) quienes son instructores y árbitros activos que se encuentran participando este fin de semana en el grupo D de la Liga de Las Américas en Ponce, Puerto Rico.

Para iniciar la sesión, el instructor Roberto Vazquez (Puerto Rico) introdujo los cambios al reglamento FIBA 2018; luego, el instructor Julio Anaya (Panama) habló acerca de los criterios para identificar las situaciones de faltas antideportivas. Para finalizar el día, los temas desarrollados fueron las técnicas individuales de arbitraje y las situaciones de simulaciones de falta las cuales se deben manejar apropiadamente durante nuestros juegos.

Durante las actividades, los participantes trabajaron en grupos en los que recibían videoclips de situaciones de juego para analizarlas y luego brindar su opinión individual sobre su decisión; estos ejercicios estimulan la mentalidad de los árbitros para desarrollar un entrenamiento mental previo a los juegos.

El campamento continua mañana sábado 9 con las actividades físicas y los entrenamientos de mecánica de tres árbitros en cancha. También contaremos con juegos en vivo en el que los árbitros seleccionados participarán para que sus actuaciones en cancha sean evaluadas.

Activities on-site: Class sessions, mental image training, on-court training, team building exercises, game analyses, coaching feedback and follow up.
